Which steps do I need to repeat for the remaining ink cartridges? Is it better to leave out the battery?

If you don't mind losing settings each time the power cord is unplugged and don't want to reset/disable the ink levels again in the future, then leave out the battery. Am I now able to use non-original ink cartridges and/or refill the ink cartridges while using the same chip?
