Stopped at a random rummage, picked up a HP dc7800 SFF with Intel Core Duo CPU's x2, 4GB RAM, 80gb HDD These appear to be old corporate machines as it boots into a VISTA image for some business. I am trying to throw Linux on this machine and since there are no cd bay am trying to do so from a USB. I went into BIOS, set boot order as follow: 1. Network boot disabled The 1st time it went into some command prompt type script but stated it failed, something about BTX failure but it flashed across so quick I could not verify it or confirm. Canon Dm-xm1 User Manual. However then it went into the Vista load up again but no USB boot. I googled it some and someone suggested disabling 'Data Execution Prevention' and so I did that.
Verified boot order again, set to USB, and then HDD. However again, nothing happens just boots directly to the Vista Image. I set BIOS back to defaults and tried again using both USB ports in back and in front and no change. On this machine F10 takes you to BIOS and F9 takes you to a boot options screen. I tried F9 and manually selecting USB and no change. I tried Unetbootin as well as win32diskimage to make various bootable OpenELEC, and XUbuntu images on 3 different USB sticks and no change.
Its like its not detecting the USB in the machine. I don't know what else to do Wsd Print Device Driver Windows 7 Epson. ???
Hp 2101nw Wireless G Print Server Software there. I can't update the BIOS as it needs to be done from Windows per HP's page, RIGHT? How else can I install a O/S if can't boot from USB, and no access to a CD/DVD for this machine? Anyone else have any suggestions?? Please advise, Regards, Phabeon •. RUFUS failed as well. To recap I have 3-5 different Linux distro's handy. And I have 3 USB sticks, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb.
I have used win32disk image, Uneetbootin, and now Rufus to throw the various distros on these USB sticks, and plugged them into various USB outlets on my machine and tried to boot from USB. NOTHING, its like the machine is not recognizing that there is usb sticks inserted, or somehow perhaps the linux bootup file is not there or not recognized? I have one more trick up my sleeve before just throwing this machine off the 36'th floor of my office. Gentlemen, thanks for all the helpful suggestions and insight, learned a little more about the BIOS then I bargained for with this and your guy's suggestions. Here is my resolution in case anyone has similar issues: 1.
I used RUFUS to create a bootable Win7(v/s the linux distors I was using) usb stick 2. For some reason that worked and I was able to boot from USB and installed Windows 7 3. From Windows 7 I went to HP's page for my computer, downloaded and installed the latest BIOS 4.
Went to BIOS and set it to boot from USB(like I was doing previously) 5. Was now able to boot into Linux distros running Openelec as we speak. Thanks again!
