We're all high schoolers, but we're quite adept saxophonists (if I say so myself). Unfortunately, our library is quite limited. So far, we have Gordon Goodwin's 'Diffusion,' Philip Glass' saxophone quartet, and some arrangements of various video game tunes we've come up with ourselves. Are there any places I could find more quartet literature? Epson Perfection 1250 Foto Scanner Treiber Fur Windows 7 64 Bit.
I've been looking around for but haven't found anything. Any original material or adaptations of other music in any genre is fine by me. Not taking into account difficulty, my favorites are: Alexander Glazunov Saxophone: Quartet Op. 109, Alfred Desenclos: Quatuor, Ida Gotkovsky: Quatour de Saxophones, Thierry Escaich: Tango Virtuoso, Astor Piazzolla: Histoire du Tango, David Maslanka: Mountain Roads, Recitation Book, or Hells Gate, Gyorgyy Ligeti: Six Bagetelles, JeanJean: Quatuor Pour Saxophones, Phil Woods: Three Improvisations, Iannis Xenakis: XAS, Michael Torke, July. Most of these aren't really in the realm of most high school players, but these might give you an idea of the sort of diversity that's out there. I'd definitely recommend looking at Glazunov and JeanJean. Might be some doable movements in Mountain Roads as well.
Maslanka loves chorale writing. Well I can recommend Eugene Bozza's Andante et Scherzo, maybe the Dubois quartet, really explore french sax quartet repertoire in general; it's the standards for the ensemble. (Pierne can be a challenge for the soprano player though) I have high school quartets work on a piece by Everett(? It was written for the Rascher Saxophone Quartet (same as the Phillip Glass but from a time when Sigurd Rascher still played alto in the group) It is published by To The Fore publishers in NJ. If you can find the original version of the Elliot Carter Quartet for Four Alto Saxophones I'd think it'd be doable for you guys.
The piece is one of the few pieces we have in our repertoire by a notable American composers and it also won several awards in composition which I can no longer remember specifically. The revised version most prevalent today may be a little too challenging to put together for your group right now. Stay away from terrible transcriptions.
I once heard a sax quartet destroy Debussy's Syrinx for solo flute; what an absolute terrible choice. Download Tema Barcelona Untuk Hp Nokia Asha 210 there. In general, avoid string quartets. Percy Granger however personally arranged a number of his classic works for sax quartet/quintet and are wonderful little pieces. I hope this helps and don't hesitate to ask for more or anything else in general. The comment about transcriptions is unnecessary and inaccurate. Because you once heard a quartet do a bad job at a solo flute piece does not mean that all transcriptions are bad, it means you have a funny anecdote. To the contrary, many transcriptions work very well for SATB sax quartets.
For your group's level, you could do very well with some of the Haydn string quartets, or Bach's Art of Fugue. Not only do these pieces work very well, but they are musically vastly superior to 80% of the saxophone quartet literature. Learning to perform them well makes you a better musician. You seemed to miss the point of what I'm saying. I never said all transcriptions. I personally think many saxophonists pick terrible transcriptions and that it should be picked more sparingly, and with greater thought, in some instances. I used the Debussy as an anecdote but it is not all the evidence I have, just simply one example of what I meant, I have heard sax quartets butcher string quartets by Beethoven, Mozart, Borodin and others that don't come to full memory at the moment.
